Sunday of Secret Agent Week

Campers have arrived and we are so excited for this week of camp! The weather has been gorgeous and we are ready for all of the fun stuff we have planned.

As soon as the kids were off the bus or dropped off from their parents this afternoon, we divided into cabin groups to play some “get to know ya” games learn each other’s names and then move into cabins. Once everyone’s beds were made and suitcases unpacked campers toured around camp checking out all of the activities playing games in each program area and talking about the week ahead.

Dinner was sub sandwiches, potato salad, pasta salad and chips and then it was time for more touring and games. On Sunday nights campers sign up for the three individual activities they will do each day for one hour. Campers choose between arts and crafts, archery/slingshot/tomahawk, canoe/kayak fishing, drama, sports, rangers and swimming. Cabins also sign up for activities that they will do as a group (including the activities listed above as well as options for low ropes, creating a talent show act, or theme activities). Campers are very busy during the week!!

At the end of dinner, two top secret agents, counselors Becky and Amanda, ran in to let everyone know that something has been stolen! THEN, counselor Ryan keyed everyone in on some super key information: the key to the door with the giant keyhole by the art barn has been stolen! Campers are already scheming to figure out the culprit. It looks like we have a very interesting week ahead of us!

At 7:00 we headed to the Friendship Circle for our opening pep fest! At the pep fest, all of the counselors dance in so that campers can get to know who they are, we sing tons of songs and we get super excited for the week ahead!

After the pep fest it was time to lower the flag and then head into evening praise and worship at the chapel. At CYC we have 5 C’s which are our values and how we live our lives at camp. The 5 C’s are courage, cooperation, charity, Christ and community. Each day has a different ‘C’ and on the first night of chapel besides talking about all 5 C’s overall we focus on courage since it takes courage to come to camp and meet new friends try new things and have a new experience. We sang praise and worship songs (CYC has a very talented Jam Band that keeps the music flowing!), listened to counselors talk to us about the ‘C’ of the day (courage) and ended chapel with the CYC prayer.

Dear God

Please bless and watch over our community as we gather in faith.

Help us to be courageous to try new things to be charitable by sharing with others and to work together in cooperation.

Let us always meet each other with kindness acceptance and an open heart.

Keep us safe today as we learn grow and play in your creation. Amen.

Campers are already filled with spirit singing enthusiastically and it is definitely going to be a super fun week!!

"CYC is a great place to have fun, make friends, and share your faith. At camp, you can make a new friend almost anywhere like during activities, around the campfire, or in your cabin. If you get homesick, you’ll have nice friends and understanding counselors to help you out. You won’t need to worry about it too much because you’ll be having fun all day. No matter where you are, fishing, swimming, or playing soccer, you’ll be having a great time. CYC rocks!" - Joe
