Operation Purple Camp!!

Operation Purple Camp has begun! On Sunday we welcomed 110 campers whose parents are currently serving in the military. OPC is a program run through the National Military Family Association and sponsored by the Sierra Club. This is Catholic Youth Camp’s second summer being selected to host an OPC camp and we are thrilled and honored to be part of this awesome program!

Sunday was an exciting day as we met all of our campers and cabins got to know each other tour camp learn about all the fun the week has in store make up cabin cheers and get excited! The theme for the week is “Military Kids Serve Too!!!!” When mom or dad is part of the military serving the country kids make sacrifices take on extra responsibility around the house and support their parents. Because of that they deserve a special week to acknowledge their service and how awesome it is to be a military kid! Operation Purple Camp brings campers from all branches of the military together to share our similarities and celebrate our differences.

On Sunday night after spending the afternoon touring camp making up cabin spirit a delicious dinner (Head Cook Gloria is AWESOME!) we headed to the Friendship Circle for an all-camp campfire. We sang some songs cabins shared their cheers and we kicked off the week with excitement!

"I love how every night we do devotions. And Sunset beach is the best place to hang out, and our cabins are very awesome too!!! Sweeney is very fun. We always have the dance party there, which is my favorite thing. They always have fun activities and we always like doing them." - Isabel
