Monday of Super Stars and Stripes Week!!

Happy 4th of July from CYC! What a great first full day of camp! We have been SO busy today. We threw out our typical Monday schedule and celebrated with MEGA ‘MERICA MONDAY! You should have seen all of the outfits today!

We started the day bright and early with polar bear plunge. Our bravest campers got up extra early to head to the beach to jump in the lake! Afterwards we had scrambled eggs and sausage for breakfast and then morning flag raising and chapel. Cabins had two hours of activities that they signed up for yesterday as a cabin. Cabins were busy fishing canoeing doing arts and crafts playing sports and shooting archery. Each cabin got to choose 5 activities to do every morning this week.

After cabin activities campers were busy tie dying tee shirts (wait until Friday to see your camper in his/her gorgeous new tee shirt!) and painting their cabin flags. We love cabin spirit at CYC and a big part of that is creating a cabin name cheer flag and working together all week to be a team.

At 11:30 cabins worked on two projects for later this week- decorating a canoe for the upcoming canoe parade (check back on Wednesday to learn more!) and building cardboard boats that they will race on Wednesday. Both projects required team work creativity and lots of brainstorming!

Lunch was pulled pork sandwiches and french fries then it was time for rest hour and then everyone headed to the beach for a 2 hour beach party! Campers could swim paddleboat compete in a sandcastle building contest and the limbo! It was a PERFECT day to hang out at the beach and have fun!

At 4:30 it was time for field games. Campers could choose between volleyball kickball ladder golf bags giant bowling sack races dizzy bat races and several other games. The weather was perfect and it was a total blast!

Dinner was a 4th of July cookout with hot dogs and water melon and campers eating on the dining hall deck.

After dinner it was time for the special 4th of July carnival! Campers got their faces painted walked from booth to booth to play games and do crafts.

Monday night is our favorite camp game- Angels and Demons. Campers are divided into two teams. Campers have to run through the forest and go to each of the three angels stationed throughout the woods. Campers get little scraps of paper signed at each station and once they have all 3 they bring it back and put it in their team bucket. Whichever team has the most at the end wins! BUT there are also demons scattered through the forest and if they tag the campers the campers have to give up their paper and try again. You have to be fast or you have to be clever to sneak around the demons. Either way it is a blast and everyone loves this game!

After a day PACKED with fun we will soon head to chapel for evening praise and worship. We will listen to a presentation about the ‘C’ of the day and then sing sing sing.

Whew! What a day!! We have kicked off our week with so much camp spirit and it is sure to be the best week of the summer!

"What camp means to me is learning about God, making friends and having fun. But the most important thing is being yourself. We have lots of fun at camp. The counselors are great, the friends are nice, the themes are awesome, and the games rule! When I grow too old to come to camp I want to be a camp counselor, but for now, I will enjoy the fun at camp. See you this year!" - Josh
