Monday- Multi Adventure Challenge Week

It was our first full day of camp today and we are having a BLAST! Because it is all teen week we switched up the schedule a bit and made breakfast much later than usual! Teens need their sleep after all. 9am breakfast was great for those of us who like to sleep in but for those of us who are morning people there were a few early morning activities. Campers had the option of early morning fishing yoga calisthenics or run club. About half of our campers took part in one of those activities. After those activities our traditional polar bear plunge was also an option and some brave campers headed down to the beach to start the day by jumping in the cold lake!

On Sunday night cabins voted and chose the 4 activities they would do as cabin groups and this morning cabins began the day with their first activity choices. Groups were canoeing doing art projects fishing dancing and exploring the nature center.

After first cabin activity it was time for MULTI ADVENTURE CHALLENGE time!! This week cabins are not only competing for the Cabin Spirit Award they are also competing for Sweeney’s Cup! To win this coveted prize teams will need to earn the most points in daily challenges. The teams were ready for action this morning and we kicked off the week with true adventure! Check out episode 1 of our mini reality show that follows our cabins through this competition- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7aGMYnC-gs

Here was the challenge-

Cabins had to choose 2 campers to compete in each of the following challenges. The entire cabin had to travel as a group from challenge to challenge. Once a challenge was completed the whole cabin could move on. The cabin to complete the course fastest would earn 100 points second place= 75 points third place= 50 points and for completing the challenge the last team would earn 25 points.

·      1.     Mud Pit- 2 campers must dig through the mud to find two puzzle pieces

2.     Boating Bay- two campers will canoe through the boating bay to retrieve two puzzle pieces floating in the boating bay

3.     Volleyball Court- 2 campers must dig through the sand to find two puzzle pieces

4.     Swim Beach- 2 campers must swim out to the floating dock to retrieve two puzzle pieces (only one camper per cabin can swim at a time)

5.     Knots- Two campers will untie a string of knots to release two puzzle pieces (this leg of the race will be located at the friendship circle)

6.     PUZZLE- One camper will assemble the puzzle while blindfolded. The second camper will be able to see and yell instructions at the blindfolded camper. No other campers are allowed to help! This leg of the race will be located at the field.

It was a tight race! Teams were spread out on the course but everyone ended up at the puzzle at the same time. In the end the red team (Women of God) came in first. The green team (14.5 Men) came from behind to come in second. The blue team (Blues Brothers) came in third and the yellow tam (the Yellow Fujis) came in last place but worked well together!

There are more challenges to come so these teams have only just begun!!

After lunch (burritos!) it was time for individual activities. On Sunday campers chose 3 activities (from the list of arts and crafts throwing- archery slingshot and tomahawks fishing canoe/kayak dance drama sports outdoor cooking survival skills). Cabins divide up and campers are able to meet new counselors and other campers while they enjoy their individual activities.

After dinner (ravioli!) groups were busy writing cabin cheers painting cabin flags and also tie dying tee shirts (wait until you see the campers rocking their brand new tee shirts on Friday!).

It’s been a full day of fun but there’s still more to come! This evening we will play our favorite camp game called Angels and Demons. Angels are positioned throughout the forest and campers must take a piece of paper to each angel to get it signed and then bring the paper back to the bucket. The team with the most papers wins. However if they are tagged by the demons (don’t worry- it’s just counselors!) they have to give up their paper and try again. Campers have to be fast clever and strategic!

After A&D we will all head to the chapel for Praise and Worship! Yesterday we learned about all 5 Cs and focused on courage. Today we will be discussing cooperation and singing at the top of our lungs as we praise God!

Our last activity of the day is all camp game night and karaoke! A great way to wind down from a busy day!

"CYC is a great place to have fun, make friends, and share your faith. At camp, you can make a new friend almost anywhere like during activities, around the campfire, or in your cabin. If you get homesick, you’ll have nice friends and understanding counselors to help you out. You won’t need to worry about it too much because you’ll be having fun all day. No matter where you are, fishing, swimming, or playing soccer, you’ll be having a great time. CYC rocks!" - Joe
