Day Five Thursday of Carnival Week

The show goes on…

Campers were back in activities today (after yesterday’s break from regular scheduling due to weather) and enthusiasm abounded. Though we still did our sun dances (basically a rain dance just in reverse!) on the way to archery and canoeing campers made the best of the breaks in the clouds and enjoyed sports fishing boating and more as usual!

Enthusiasm also abounded at our mealtimes. Here at CYC breakfast lunch and dinner are very musical times of the day. The trailblazer girls started the festivities off this afternoon by chanting their thanks and support first to the kitchen staff then to the program staff and nurses. We also enjoyed a serenade by the pathfinder boys (who led grace and sang for mail). Of course with delicious jelly filled donuts cereal and fruit for breakfast and sloppy joes mac & cheese and salad for lunch how could we be anything but enthusiastic! Gloria (our head cook) and all of her assistants continue to impress us with delicious and nutritious food for every meal!

An animal escape!

At 11:00 this morning we had quite a surprise! Apparently all of the animals that were in town for yesterday’s carnival (the imaginary lions tigers and circus dogs — even the ostrich) escaped and it was up to the campers to trek across camp and gather them up! Each camper was given an "Animal Keeper’s Booklet" and as a cabin had to collect nine stickers at as many stations around camp. The trick was this: each counselor was given a list of riddles that campers had to solve by identifying which animal each riddle referred to and a map to show where each animal could be found. After all of this was explained in Sweeney Down campers were set free with their counselors. The top three finishing cabins were the pathfinder girls the trailblazer girls and the pathfinder boys but the settler girls and boys also received special spirit points for their hard work and co-operation. With everyone’s help the animals were recovered and we can once again rest easy here at CYC!

A very special guest…

This morning at Holy Ground (our morning chapel time) the campers were told that we will be having not one but two very special guests this afternoon. Bishop Piche we were told will be coming to say mass. And of course whenever there is mass Jesus comes to visit in a special way. Campers are all looking forward to these appearances tonight around five o’clock!
